Monte Selby writes song with 8th grade

The Haiti Song

I took for granted the food on my table

Shoes on my feet and a roof overhead

Seeing my friends was just something expected

Like pillows and blankets each night on my bed

Then I saw the faces of Haiti's small children

Their bodies, their families and lives torn apart

A country so shaken by violent earth breakin'

There's aching and trembling inside of my heart

CHORUS:

From bad to worse

A place with too little lost everything

Helpless and hurt

Now I'm so grateful for the simple things

In my life

I'd like to send fuel for the flame in their lighthouse

A beacon to guide each small step in the dark

Leading to some place with everything wanted

And everything needed to give life a start

I'm sending this song on the wind like a prayer

Knowing there's never enough love to share

At least for today I will turn to those near me

A promise to help and a promise to care

CHORUS:

From bad to worse

A place with too little lost everything

Helpless and hurt

Now I'm so grateful for the simple things

In my life
